Wied Ghomor project needs to be revoked – ERA

first_imgAn extensive development planned for Wied Ghomor, Swieqi, will negatively impact the surrounding valley and therefore its permit needs to be revoked, the Environmental Resources Authority has said. This is the position presented by ERA to the Environment Planning Review Tribunal, responding to a permit approval by the Planning Authority. They warn that the development set within the valley, ‘does not conform to the Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development and goes against the Rural Policy and Design Guidance of 2014.’The project under PA/06443/17 envisages, ‘Proposed alterations to existing farmhouse and extension at ground floor and first floor levels. Proposed excavation of basement, pool, deck area and landscaping in line with present policies. Proposed reinstatement of country road to the farmhouse and reinstatement of footpath connecting Triq Josef Kalleya to the farmhouse. Proposed clearing of rubble from site, placed during the construction of Triq Josef Kalleya.’ERA says that ‘it is very clear that the volume of the building in the area will be substantially intensified and this does not respect the context of the valley in which it is located, which serves as a buffer zone in a densely populated area and serves as a green lung.’They warn that the project contravenes the North Harbour Local Plan by placing pressure on the surrounding environment, and thus remove the key pristine land buffer between the two urban zones. It’s go ahead would ‘create a precedent within the zone,’ ERA warns.WhatsApp SharePrint last_img
