He is expected to join in October this year.Over 25 years, Braunsperger has reached stellar positions with the German auto manufacturer. During his stint, he designed flagship sedans BMW 5/6/7 series, along with sports utility vehicles X3, X5 and X7.  In addition to the above, the 51-year-old has also been in-charge of R&D at Motorrad, BMW’s two-wheeler division. Braunsperger’s appointment is another growing trend among Indian automobile firms hiring expats to head their R&D divisions. Last year, Hero had roped in Markus Feichtner, an expert on engine technology, to head its newly set-up Engine Design & Development division. Similarly, Tata Motors appointed former BMW R&D head Timothy Leverton as head of Engineering and R&D for passenger cars, trucks and buses in 2010.  Talking about the Kukas R&D division, Hero MotoCorp Managing Director and CEO Pawan Munjal had said, “The facility in Kukas will be an international centre of excellence, not just in terms of its design, development, testing and validation facilities but also in terms of the diversified pool of human talent from all over the world.”last_img
