Ingle Named To Prestigious Lieberman Award Watch List

She also averaged 9.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs went 23-10 to record their second-straight 20-plus win season. Now in its 17th year, the Lieberman award recognizes the top point guard in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. Candidates exhibit the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame became the host of the Nancy Lieberman Award three years ago after the Rotary Club of Detroit managed it for several years. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday, Oct. 24 that Drake University women’s basketball senior point guard Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) is one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2017 Nancy Lieberman Award. The local product from Runnells, Iowa, has dished out 534 career assists to rank fourth all-time at Drake, seventh all-time in the Missouri Valley Conference and 14th among active players. Ingle can pass former Drake standout Connie Newlin (1978-82), who had 767 career assists, for the top mark in program history. She can overtake Melanie Boeglin, who played at Illinois State from 2002-06 and had 685 assists, for the top mark in MVC history. Drake hosts Winona State Nov. 1 in an exhibition contest with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center.
