MAD market: Buyers camp overnight outside estate agency to bag homes

first_imgThe property buying frenzy gripping the nation at the moment was brought into sharp focus when dozens of keen house hunters camped outside an estate agency to secure a property.Extraordinary scenes were witnessed outside estate agency Bidmead Cook in the Welsh town of Aberdare where 30 people set up a long line of chairs and makeshift bedding to be first in line to bag one of the 14 homes available at a local new homes development. The development, called Cwm Heulwen, is offering buyers with three-bedroom properties priced at £184,950 and with four-bed homes priced at £320,000 exclusively via Bidmead Cook. Those waiting in line were waiting for the agency to open the next morning when the homes were launched by the agency onto the market.Doors openedThe agency says their doors opened at 9am and all the properties were sold by 11am.“Thank you to all who slept out last night, and congratulations to all that were able to secure their dream home this morning at our Aberdare office,” the company said.Founder Gavin Williams told local media that: “We didn’t expect this, we knew there would be plenty of interest but we didn’t think people would wait through the night,” he said.Williams says he visited those in the queue as darkness fell to offer hot drinks and food and to check they were OK.Locals are attracted by the development’s relatively affordable prices, location and the large gardens they include.Buyers in the queue had to be ‘proceedable‘; including having their mortgage in principle ready or prove that they were already marketing their current homes to bag a home, including a non-refundable deposit.Pic credit: Bidmead Cook.estate agent queue Bidmead Cook Wales April 26, 2021Nigel LewisOne commentDaniel Hamilton-Charlton, Director – Property Searches Direct Ltd Director – Property Searches Direct Ltd 26th April 2021 at 11:46 amWould it not have made sense to open up the office and do some deals and let people go home to bed rather than offer them food and drink to stay out all night on the pavement.Another amazing example of an Estate Agent believing that the potential for column inches was more important than the customer experience. But it’s OK, they got doughnuts and coffee.Give everyone in the queue a unique number, tell them to go home and come back just ahead of office opening and people will be able to enter the office based on the number they have been given…..surely?!?Log in to ReplyWhat’s your opinion?
